CARLSWEETS is an artist and educator working primarily in Photography, Video, and Alternative Digital Media. Carl earned his BS in Applied Mathematics from Kent State University and worked in the technology sector for dot-com, engineering, and fortune 500 consulting before devoting his life to the arts and education. He studied Photography and Digital Media at Columbia College Chicago and earned a MFA studying Photo, Video, and New Media at Pratt Institute. Previous to joining the Prescott College faculty, Carl performed as the Education Director at Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, OR and integrated arts into the Portland Public School curriculum through the Right Brain Initiative. Carl has instructed at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, South Suburban College, Marwen, Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education, and Hyde Park Art Center.

Carl is an internationally exhibiting artist and recipient of several artist grants. Carl’s artistic research has explored the personal through family photos and rites of passage. He has examined America’s dilemmas with Power through the literal (oil, coal, nuclear, hydro, solar) and perceived (social, spiritual, economic, political). Carl’s current research targets the megalomaniacal by examining their embellishment of truth and exaggeration of fact.
